"Traveling into View" features new photographic and mixed-media works drawn from a recent artist residency at Monte Azul Center for the Arts in the tropical rainforest of Costa Rica. Neff’s response to this unfamiliar landscape is embracing in its scope, moving from confounding abstract reflections to her own photographic taxonomy of tropical leaves, proposing a kind of portrait gallery where each leaf is celebrated for the remarkable individual that it is. Within the mix, she offers an imagined night, a place where a white horse walks alone and the leaves themselves transform to suggest the mountain ridges where they grow. And all the while, Neff stays close to her underlying concerns, engaging ideas of representation and display within the complex conversation we expect from this artist.
